Hello to you all,

After reading your comments, it was clear that pruning some of the forums wasn't a problem for any of you.
Thank you for all your comments and support!

We are now back online!

Creative is down again... and it's all our fault...

Our database is currently dead dead dead, and so are all the attachments...

Don't you guys worry, we have not been hacked, this has all happened because I (Mels) suck...

We are currenty reviewing the different possibilities to get the site back up ASAP and in the best conditions for the server... For now all accesses to the database crash the whole server (hence this new temporary ugly waiting page). One solution might be to start back from scratch, keep all members accounts intact but delete ALL the old messages. It actually might be the only solution...

What would you guys feel about this solution? Would you rather have us close the boards for good, or do you want the boards back, even if it means all your old posts and artwork will be gone ?

Some (good) news for all of you!

Hello to you all dear Creativists,

After a long break, we are finally ready to come back! Yep! Thanks to more than 40 members who have donated a very generous amount of 276$, we were able to buy the new software, and the rest of the money has already been distributed to our generous host Gertie, to help her pay the hosting bill!
We are currently working of the last little details of the forums, but it's a matter of hours now, so get your keyboards ready, 'cause Creative is back!

Many of you have asked if there was a way to donate using another solution than PayPal, and the answer to this question is no, because of complicated logistics - for you, and for us. We are extremely sorry for those of you who really wanted to contribute. What counts is the intention :)

Also, for the ones among you who haven't donated but still wish to do so, there will now be an optional paid subscription on Creative, called "gold membership" which will allow you to have very special privileges. More about that when we're back online.

Thank you so much for all your support and incredible words of encouragements, we got many comments here and by email. It only reminded us again how great a sense of solidarity and respect the members of this community have.
Thank you so much, to each and every one of you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Stay tuned, we will be back in a few hours!

Tere & Mels.

A quick update

Hi guys,

first off, Mels and I would like to say thanks to all those who have sent a donation so far. You guys are the greatest! Here's the link to the donation page again, for those of you who would like to contribute and still haven't had the chance to do so:

For all those who don't own a credit card and asked if it would be possible to send a donation: we are waiting for a response, we'll let you know more in the next couple of days. :)

And last, good news: Mels and I are finally working on the new boards, with our wonderful mods' help! :) We still don't know when the "new" Creative will be ready, but we're working as fast as we can...

More later...

The donation page is finally up!

Go ahead and click here if you would like to contribute to Creative and become a "Gold Member" with special privileges.

Switching to VBulletin...

Hello everybody!

Mels and I have been discussing about the issue. As Mels already explained, we are not going to upgrade the software we are currently using for several reasons (including the fact that it seems to have serious security holes!), but we decided to switch to a more professional board. Our first choice was Invision Power Board, but IPB doesn't import attachments... this means that all the artwork and all the resources that were posted on Creative in the past year and a half would get lost! And this would truly be a pity, wouldn't it? We could as well start from scratch, at that point...

On the other hand, VBulletin does import attachments and, at the moment, switching to this software looks like the best solution to us. But we will need $85 to buy the license and get the board up and running. Many of you offered to help and we are extremely grateful for that!

You will be given all the details as to where to make a donation in the next few hours. Thanks to everybody for the kind words and support! :)

Spreading the word...

Totally forgot to ask you all to post about this weblog on your respective websites and LJs... and on communities you are a member of and you know a lot of members are also Creativists (I'm thinking of sd1, allalias and I'm sure there are others).

The exact addy is http://www.everlasting-star.net/creative/

Thanks in advance for your help spreading the word :)

A couple of clarifications

Hello all,

As the very first of you who have posted all ask the same questions, here's a little "FAQ" for all of you!

"Will you set up a PayPal account?"

Yes we will. I (Mels) already have a verified PayPal account and though nothing has been fully decided yet, this is probably the account we would use.

"What is the price of the boards you plan to buy?"

VBulletin costs 85$.
IPB costs 69.95$ a year or 199$ for a lifetime licence.
IPB sounds a better option for us, we might start with a one year licence and see what comes next year.

"Will there be a refund if the whole donation isn't big enough to
buy a new software?"

Probably. If there is no refund the money will go directly to the hosting of the forums anyways. More info on that in a future post, as we haven't made any decision right now.

"What is the current status of the database?"

I think it's intact. The only big problem we will have when switching to a new system will be to import the attachments. There is a possibility that we will never be able to get these babies back into posts... :(
More on that later as well.

Keep those questions and comments coming, we'll do our best to provide you with all the answers.

Creative status

Dear Creative members,

Once again, Creative has been hacked.
The hacking happened because someone used a security issue from phpBB, the forum software we currently use for all your posting needs. We would need to upgrade the forums - which means add all the hacks and nice feature we added - in order to put the forums back online, which would cost a LOT of time we currently don't have. Sadly.

The other solution we have is to buy a more serious forum software, such as Invision Power Board and VBulletin. These cost money. Not a lot, but money nonetheless, Tere and myself don't necesseraly have. We are currently thinking of a solution and the best one for now is to ask you guys a little monetary contribution to help us get those licenced boards up and running. You would be totally free to give out the exact amount of money you want, of course. We will try to find a way to give all the contributors some special features.
All the extra money would directly go to Gertie, our generous host and would help her pay the upcoming hosting bills.

Nothing is sure and definitive for now, except the fact that Creative won't be back if we can't get a licenced and more secure board. We will keep you informed of our decisions on this page. Please do reply to this post here and let us know what your opinion regarding this "contribution" solution, and any ideas you guys could have to help us out.
Should you need to contact us (Tere & Mels) privately, please do so by email : creative@everlasting-star.net.

Thanks for your patience, and we hope to hear from all of you soon!

PS/ Please give this addy to all your Creative friends who might not have received the newsletter...
