I've just watched GPB for the millionth time and yet again was blown away by Marilyn, she was so funny and gorgeous in this film. But...did she wear a corset? I can't believe that any dress, no matter how tight could give that fabulous shape without a corset underneath...we all know Marilyn had a fabulous figure but it was very exaggerated in films such as GPB and HTMAM. I believe her breasts may have been padded as well, do any of you guys know? xx
Mairi
She may have worn a corset, but I doubt that her bra was padded. I the fifties they had these like really pointy bras that would emphasize a woman's bust. Combine that with Marilyn's natural, ahem, assets, and that could explain it.

I've wondered about the corset thing too. I mean, we know she had a tiny waist but I still tend to believe that she did wear a corset at least in some scenes on her films. Probably not in her personal life because she didn't like underwear.

Well corset or not, she really did have that perfect hour glass figure. No-one will make me believe voluptuous is out and stick thin is in.. xx

She did used a corset on some films, in the movie let's make love at the second half of the movie you can catch marilyn in some scene wearing a leotard and a corset over it, also you can see corsets in the river of no return.

From Marilyn's Estate,Ebay they were selling her corsets, brassiers and paddings and padded brassiers wich made her breasts look quite a lot bigger.

Agree!... and remember all the underwear before the earlier 60's was basically made in cotton and hard seams enhanced.

There are some interesting costumes resources on the net form that period and other times, check them out:

I simply LOVE 1950's fashion.Very feminine and it reminds me photos of my drandmother wearing similar outfits and posing sultry to the camera. She also went to the movies during those days and watched Marilyn's movies with her girlfriends. She told how much fun especially Some like it hot had been and how daring during those days smile1.gif
I miss her so much...

Oh those anecdotes and memories are so sweet koreasing.gif

You are right, I believe the best fashion was tht of 1950's as the worst haircuts, hairdos and make-up came with the 1960's and I don't like that much Marilyn's look by then except for a few ones shots wacko.gif

I accept,I am not a big fan of Marilyn's 1960's look -except those few glamorous dresses (JFK's party for example) and I really think she was way too thin. cry.gif

Very true ohmy.gif

I believe part of her depression came with her look eyebrow.gif

Being as glamorous and sexy as she was, her overall look probably didn't satisfied her at all unsure.gif
