I may need to sell a kidney this year... laugh.gif

I think this may be connected to Ferragamo's MM exhibition that is coming to Italy later this year. The author, Stefania Ricci, wrote similar books about their Garbo and Hepburn style exhibits.

Well. Now I really want to go to that exhibition. If there's any way I can (afford to) go, I'll pack my bags and travel to Firenze.
chris
Do you know if it will be a book totally dedicated to Marilyn ?
Thank you
Chris

Yes, I think so. If it is connected to the Ferragamo exhibit, which is for Marilyn alone, then it will probably be a stand-alone book, not just a catalogue.

Product Description

The Museo Ferragamo in Florence pays homage to Marilyn Monroe with a major exhibition and a catalogue dedicated to her a half century after her death. Like other divas of the silver screen (Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo), Marilyn also loved to wear Salvatore Ferragamo shoes. The exhibition and catalogue dedicated to her are the result of long research and preparatory work, presenting items from the actresss wardrobe worn on the set or in her private life, as well as important documents that reveal the actresss managerial side, her skill and determination in building and grooming her success. A well endowed collection of photographs of Marilyn taken in her day-to-day life are juxtaposed with the power of the archetype and the endurance of the myth, the greatness of which perhaps resides in the stars double nature as spiritualized female and pop icon. Measuring themselves against the myth and the chronicles, the curators have sought to interpret the genesis of certain famous photographs (by Beaton, Stern, Barris, Greene) portraying Marilyn in classic poses. They have compared these portraits with famous works of art from the past, representing older expressions of similar poses and expressions, from the balanced pathos of French painter Jean-Baptiste Greuzes Alessandro morente to Botticellis Venus.

great cover! clapping.gif

could this be the first Marilyn related book with Beaton's picture on it's cover? soooo beautiful!

those Italians clearly have sublime taste and understanding of Marilyn's magic that is well above the average thumbup1.gif

Strange, they practice different policy-I was at the Getty Images Gallery Marilyn exhibit recently,in London. They had twelve dresses and costumes of hers. I was allowed to take as many pictures as I liked, but was told not to photograph the photographs of her there. Other than that, no restrictions. Looks like a beautiful book! balloon.gif

No spesific book from exhibition, no. They sold prints/photographs that were very expensive, and they also sold the book Marilyn by Nick Yapp-it is full of photos curtesy of Getty Images. I did not buy it though,as I have heard the text about Marilyn is horrible. But I am going to London again now this summer,so am thinking about it. Anyway it was a stunning exhibition, they should have had a catalogue. But the trip was def worth it!

I saw many images of the exhibition in Florence on the web or on newspapers here in Italy and the famous "happy birthday dress" seems different...Is it the original or a copy?

Bookdepository send my copy today. Can't wait!
Tara
My copy just arrived. It's gorgeous - has a padded cover like the MM Personal Archives book. Much of it is about Marilyn as myth and inspiration. There are comparisons between her and the beauties of classical art. There aren't really any rare photos - I saw only a couple that I didn't immediately recognise. Nonetheless there are many iconic pictures, in great quality - De Dienes, Feingersh etc. There's also a section on Marilyn's clothing, and the text seems interesting as well. All in all, a very special book.
ronaldo
Tara, are there also pictures of the items that are on exhibit in Florence in the book?

According to the book, the original dress is now too fragile for public display, hence the replica.

This book is definitely a must have for me! I also think that the exhibition in Italy is a special one. I've seen a lot of pictures of it and I just love the way they're presenting Marilyn.

...Paju, let's go on a little "Marilyn trip" together, I'm willing to save money! clapping.gif

Paju
Thank you so much for those scans! Now I have a better idea of how the book really is - and it looks really interesting.

Please can you make a better scan of the Allan Grant contact sheet, because it's not really in focus?

Never saw the pictures before and it will be intersting for the other fans, too.

Many thanx for your help.

WOOOOOOOOOOOW neverseen most of these but the Allan Grant contact sheet blew me away thank you so muchfor sharing
New Mexico
Hi Nicky,

I hope this one will flash you away - only in bad quality.

But when we see all the contact sheets which were published by Allan Grant - he must done a lot of pics during the last interview and ONLY a few pictures are known.

The quality of the contact sheets is great and I can't understand that the postcards and photos in a so bad quality - every time to much contrast and closeups, so that the photos a little bid out of focus, but the sheets and the 2 poster I know are in a great quality.

Hope you will enjoy this one.

Best
This great color work I found in net. Interesting, Grant told she had yellow trousers on, but what color did have had the pullover?
