Full Version: Marilyn Wore A Tooth Cap....?

In Pepitones book (which most consider a tabloid-ish book) she tells a story of how Marilyn had to run up to her apartmeny in NY (further delaying her outting with Miller) because she forgot to put in her tooth cap which she wore due to a gap she had in her front teeth (I'm not sure which).

But I've seen tons of pics where Marilyn is smiling and I see no gap or any hint of a cap to cover up a gap.

I'm guessing this is false, but I could be wrong. James Dean didn't have his 2 front teeth! His father was a dentist and made him false teeth to wear (looks real to me!)

...is this true? Anyone know?
Did anyone else ever mention this?

According to several friends, Dean enjoyed putting his false teeth in other people's drinks when they weren't looking. The pesky little scamp!

^ That's hilarious!

I don't know about Marilyn's teeth, though. In her earlier pictures, her front teeth protruded quite a bit, but I see no evidence of a gap.

She was wearing braces I guess in 1948 (Fred Karger, Ladies Of the Corus period). I know sometimes (and I experienced it) later in life teeth move a little bit, change their position. It's possible she needed to correct her occlusion if the changes made by braces started dissapearing.

Braces? Like the metal ones?

I don't know if they were metal but I think so. It was some kind of a device that she was putting on and off her teeth for a six month period. That's why her smile changed and her front teeth were no more protruding.Well, if Marie Antoinette in 1770s was wearing metal braces why not Marilyn:)

I'm pretty sure it was a retainer rather than braces, or at least I heard it was a retainer--if you've got metal braces they're cemented on to your teeth--retainers have a metal bar that goes across the front of the teeth and is molded to the roof of your mouth and pops in and out--that's probably what it was! I had braces and a retainer--they're a pain in the neck, both of them! bye1.gif

Oh ok, that's what I meant, didn't know it was a difference in English. I used to wear braces- I agree Colby, a total pain in the...

she did have one tooth starightened

Now thinking about it, I don't think Marilyn wore a tooth cap. In HQ pictures of her smiling brightly, there is no evidence of it. I believe she had a slight overbite, but other than that her teeth were practically perfect! biggrin.gif
