I also notice the difference in her hairstyles; in addition, she is not wearing earrings in both photos.

Her hairstyle and makeup from the first picture look very 1952/53-ish, reminds me of some Cinerama/Walter Winchell birthday parties. Is it possible that it's two pictures combined for some reason? And what's in the background?Hmm, curious...

The first photo is most definitely not from the press conference at Delaney's house.

The set up makes me wonder if the photo may have been taken at a VIP-lounge at an airport, or something similar. Was there an air line, or maybe some other company named "--JA"?

Behind her : J OF GREATER NEW
May be a TV News? Radio?
May be it's the same day before the press conference, she wasn't ready and she don't wear yet earrings or may be at the end, she removed her earrings...

I remembered posting this here: http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/?showtopic=16320
And it mentioned the Millers and this organization.

The United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York

http://www.policyarchive.org/handle/10207/bitstreams/10214.pdf

" Telephone solicitation remains perhaps the most universally employed technique for fund-raising by the campaigns of UJA-Federation. Such solicitation is done regularly, especially at the outset of each campaign year. But the most intensive solicitation is saved for one Sunday late in each campaign cycle designated as Super Sunday. "

Maybe this is why Marilyn is on the phone in these pictures, advertising the event.

I've found the answer : it's in 1955 in New York:
"Marilyn Monroe joins leaders of the Junior Division of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York at a fund-raising dinner circa 1955"

You can find this information and the picture in the book "The politics and public culture of American Jews", on page 140, just available here: http://books.google.fr/books?id=ywiml-ryalgC&pg=PA140&lpg=PA140&dq=united+jewish+appeal+marilyn+monroe&source=bl&ots=e2Fz1zo8ga&sig=9yowkj5Oiq_49PDKHJUuti6ltQg&hl=fr&ei=W5alTqy4NsTusga_h73pAg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CCsQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=united%20jewish%20appeal%20marilyn%20monroe&f=false

Not sure unsure.gif .

This newspaper article is dated March 4, 1955. So if that article does belong to this event it took place late February I think.
