Thank you,Roksana. You have such an incredible collection of magazines which you are so generously sharing with us
To be fair, I don't think Marilyn and Grace were ever in competition. They were so very different. I'm more a fan of Grace's incredible style than her acting, although I think she was at her best in Hitchcock's film, Rear Window.
But yes, Marilyn is the queen ...
Wonderful Roksana! Thanks.
I agree. I like them both. I adore Marilyn. But, I can appreciate Grace's beauty and style. I enjoy her films, especially Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, Dial M for Murder and Mogambo.
Almost forgot...Thanks Roksana for the wonderful article!

The article from Motion Picture magazine, published in February, 1961.
Thanks Roksana, very interesting.
I wonder where they got the idea that Arthur was still in love with his first wife, Mary? Of all the explanations for the breakup of his marriage to Marilyn, this one is new to me. Because after all, Arthur made a lasting marriage with Inge Morath soon after this article was published.
The interviews were interesting - particularly Arthur's parents. His mother died in March 1961, a month after the article was published. Zolotow's comments about how hard it was for Marilyn to have a normal married life also gave me pause for thought.
Once again, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Roksana. I am currently researching this subject, so your article is very interesting to me.
I had never heard of this before, an interesting article .

Never before seen pic of Marilyn! Thank u so much!
Thanks again and again Roksana!
Great article, it's always nice to read about Marilyn the person, rather than the movie star or bombshell
"Look at me. See what I am? I'm Supposed to be exactly what you see...nothing beneath this dress, even... nothing except that calendar girl."
It's sad, because it's true to this day how people see Marilyn
That was the most amazing article I have read on her! I'm speechless! They got her persona down perfectly. What the world saw her as, and what she really was in her own eyes and wanted to be. You really get a sense of looking thru her eyes and what she was going thru at that time in her life. The majority of the world who see Marilyn as a pinup model or a woman that wiggles. With no brain. And the struggle she fought against day to day to negate that image. She was always looking for that idyllic love and happiness as the article stated. Fame, money...in the end all that matters is one's own happiness. When I look into her eyes I don't see the 'fame' surrounding Marilyn or the 'aura of sex appeal' that the public wanted from her. I see a human being with real emotions, who suffered just as we all do in our day to day lives. But she knew the strength inside her and kept looking for that rainbow. Amazing woman she was.
yeah!!! thanx roksana!
You`re welcome, girls!

Don't know why it posted it backwards. Dumb thing. btw...you welcome♥
Wonderful, thanks Stacy!
Thanks JC for all your postings
What a lovely article about our Marilyn. Thank you so much JC. Evelyn was truly a friend to Marilyn. I am certain Marilyn felt better just having people like her around while filming.
I believe what she said was true. Marilyn got a bum wrap all the time and she really worked so hard to be her best. And she was so kind to everyone.
Great read. Kind of sad of course, her not being able to even attend the funeral. Thanks again JC .
Motion Picture Magazine - October 1961
Is Marilyn Having "Heart Trouble," Too ?
' She remained in the hospital 10 days. During that time, Joe DiMaggio, who stood by in Marilyn's hospital room during the two- hour surgery, with occasional tears in his eyes, was a daily visitor. His presence revived those undying rumors that he and Marilyn would re-marry.
Another rumor which haunted the illness-plagued star is that she will wed, not Joe but his great friend, Frank Sinatra.
Which one does she love? Which one will she choose? If Joe DiMaggio truly back in the picture, where does Frank Sinatra stand? Or does Sinatra already have the inside track, with DiMaggio running as a longshot?
One day Frank Sinatra sent over an invitation to the entire Misfits crew to be his guests at the show and at a party afterwards. Arthur declined because he spent his weekends working on the script. Other members of the Misfits cast accepted Sinatra's invitation. And when his laughing, relaxed group, including Kay and Clark Gable, drove over to Tahoe that evening, you can imagine how startled they were to see Marilyn make a late - and grand- entrance! Her long fluffy champagne- colored hair was perfectly set. Carefully penciled lines around her lake-blue eyes brought out their gleam of fire. Her wantenseness, which was readily apparent on the set, was obliterated now in a flashing smile. She was indeed a vision in a tight, low-cut champagne sheath which illuminated every curve. '
PS
Do we know about this show and after party that she attended wearing this low-cut champagne sheath ?
Thanks for posting such an interesting article♥

Thank you so much for this article ! Wonderful reading.
I love all the things she said about taking the bus trip all alone to Monterey to film Clash by Night. And the Italian men she met on that bus. Getting to Monterey at dawn and eating breakfast at a little lunch counter. You know, people tended to misquote Marilyn often. I do love these quotes". She was a feminist for sure.
" When I buy a dress, I want it to do something for me. I want it to make me more attractive. And that means more attractive to men. Of course.
But just because my clothes are designed with a man in mind, don't get the idea that I don't want feminine approval too. I do.
WE'RE ALL SISTERS UNDER THE SKIN."
"I won't say that I am completely unmoved by criticism of this kind, but I have learned not to let it worry me too much. And I like to remember the remarks attributed to Abraham Lincoln: " If you call a tail a leg, how many legs has a dog ? Five ? No. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg. "
So it is with criticism. Name calling won't alter facts, nor is it apt to change me.
But it is likely to expose the fears and frustrations of the name caller. "
Ya gotta love our girl. She was very wise.
agree. her trip to Monterey is so interesting. she was really trying to invest herself in the local flavor and accurately portray a girl from that part of the world. sadly all anyone saw was how sexy she was, especially since her nude calendar came out then. makes me want to watch Clash By Night again and really look at her performance in light of this information.
