WoW Stacy,
what a joy in the morning to see those fab pics
Do you have any idea about the date at ciro's? 1950 or what would you say?
The photo is from an article, We Swam Our Way to Ciro's, Modern Screen, September 1951. Marilyn and her friends, Craig Hill, Mala Powers, and Nick Savano swam at Herman Hover's pool, then partied
later at Ciro's. Herman Hover was the owner of Ciro's. Marilyn's date was Craig Hill. The couple in the photo with them in the middle is Corrine Calvet and her husband John Bromfield. They skipped the pool party because John was on location. Mala and Nick are seen on the far right edge of the frame. This photo never made it into the article, but a variant one did.
Oops! I forgot to also say thanks to brettlovesmarilyn for cleaning up the photo. It looks stunning.
And welcome!
Stacy these pics are just amazing ! I mean the quality is outstanding !!! And brettlovesmarilyn, thanks for corrercting the colour on the one pic that looked old !!!
And while I'm at it, a BIG welcome to you !!
Mels
Wow Stacy!!
DId you buy those pics on Ebay?
I had just seen the two from Gentlemen Prefer blondes but with Marilyn alone without the guys. Are the original pictures the ones you´ve posted with those guys?
Thanks a lot!! YOur collection is so amazing!!
Bless your heart Celia. I only wish I could afford to own them all.
I'm not sure about the ones with the men. Just variant prints that
may have been cropped. These came from old magazine archives,
as I understand it. They are original photos, not copies. The bidding
starts at $49.00. Yipes! Maybe after my book sells. For now, I'll have
to be content with digatal images.
Wow Stacy!! Love the pictures!! I love rare pictures because they seem so hard to find. Thanks for sharing!!!
Stacy, fab. pics as always
Do you know, which home/apt. it is?
Since it was early 1951, I am assuming it was Natasha Lytess's home.
Woooo HOOOOOOO Thank you Stacy for posting them, those are beautifull.
a rare candid from September 21, 1959.
From my friend Rebecca.
Wow...
All of those are of ocurse amazing......but the last is hauntingly beautiful...her lips look crimson.....
Thanks so much for sharing Stacy....You are very kind
Caoimhe
Marilyn at the premiere of Gigi. What make this one unusual is the size.
It's clear and you can study the details.
Marilyn sitting with New York Mayor Robert Wagner at the after premier dinner of The Prince and the Showgirl, June 13, 1957. It is interesting to note that Marilyn was pregnant at this time, although she doesn't look it in this mermaid dress.
I've never seen the smaller photo before. It is the full image taken by Tom Caffery from which the familiar close up was taken from.
"One afternoon in a room full of noisy confusion, Marilyn was sitting
quietly studying her lines with complete concentration. Quickly but carefully, I was 12 feet away so as not to distract her. Then I called
to her in a low voice, 'Marilyn.' She glanced up, I tripped the shutter and got the sweet picture here."
A couple of more picture from the previous series about Ciro's
Home Town Story publicity photo and one from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Wow Stacy !
Great pictuur,s where did,t you find them ???
Pleas let me now
Stacy
You are so incredible
Thanks
Chris
Same place you do Jimmy. Some of the last ones were from old magazines. You are very tricky yourself!
Thanks Chris!
Hey Jimmy...there's nothing to be sorry for.
I just meant that I've taken your advice and went to the places you said and there they were! That's all, silly.
I'm sorry if I sounded rude. I didn't mean it that way at all.
Amazing pics Stacy!!!!
It might be Lytess house yes, but during 1951 Marilyn also lived at the following addresses:
Beverly Carlton Hotel in 9400 West Olympic boulevard :
3539 Kelton Way , West LA
and 611 NOrth Crescent Drive.
Does anyone have the pictures of Marilyn and Lytess by the chimeney? We could find out whether it is Natasha´s house comparing the chimeney in those series and the photo of Marilyn reading by the chimeney
It is not the same chimney photographed in Natasha's home, but it could be another fireplace in another part of the home.
Look at this contact sheet. It's candids of Marilyn and Arthur and some woman walking around on their property in Connecticut, when they were
planning to build a home. They were taken by Bob Henriques. They eventually decided to remodel their home. Marilyn had even approached Frank Lloyd Wright for a design for her home, but it became too expensive.
I do wish these were bigger!
I think one was printed in James Haspiel's book the UnPublished Marilyn.
hi, i had problems with my computer, sorry
do you think that photo named "For My Friends, September 21, 1959.jpg" was taken same day that photo posted by me??
Jeannette, I think the pics were taken the same time.
The second candid I posted gives a really close look at Marilyn's face.
As an artist, I like photos like this that show Marilyn's "real" face, where she is not posing.
The third is a rare photo of Marilyn in 1951. I wish it were bigger.
Hey Jimmy...very interesting pics. Can you imagine owning Marilyn's gates?! Is that a catalog? If so, do you own it?
Thanks sweetie!
Hey chickeyonthego, isn't "For my friends, Marilyn at the East of Eden premiere.jpg" not from that premiere. I thought the East of Eden premiere was when Marilyn was usherette and wearing the white gown as in the pic below. Was there another East Of Eden premiere that she attended???
No i don,t own the cateloge :-(
I found it on the net.
I love the two sitter :-)
I wood like to own that :-)
This is also what i found on a fan site , great pictuur,s injoy them !
love jimmy
You are so right Jimmy...I'm brain dead. Thanks for checking up on me.
So far, you are the only one who's caught it, or at least said anything.
She is at the premier of Tennessee Williams Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Duh
here's a kiss for you
Those are great pics!
For My Friends, Candids of Marilyn, Arthur and woman, Roxbury by Bob Henriques.jpg
is one of the pictures this one?
i don't really know anything about this pic... i always thought it was taken by Greene... maybe i'm mistaken about everything
iuno
you tell me?
oww jimmie they are wonderfull
Thank you !
They are from arownd the time she made glass by nicht !
Moore to come :-)
Jim
Hey Katie, the one you posted is by Milton Greene.
Here is a larger scan of one of the ones like the contact sheet
contains. It is from Haspiel's book The Unpublished Marilyn.
oh okay
thanks for clearing that up stacy!
Here's some
(edit by Nina Aug 1st, 2004 - Sorry, I couldn't transfer two of your photos from the old board to the new - I could save only one, which is attch.!)
weee
thanks jimmy!
i have never seen those last two, by george barris so big before!!! thanks so much!
Hello Jimmy.....
Your pictures are wonderful.....Just wondering who is the guy with Marilyn on the SLIH set??
Caoimhexx
Jimmy! Wow!!! Those are beautiful. I love the close-ups. More! More!
Paul I don't know anything about that picture. It seems to be from mid-61 or later. Marilyn is thin, her hair is in the bouffant, and it's shorter than
March of 1961. Is that Sammy Davis, Jr. sitting next to her?
It's such a lovely scan of her. I wish we knew something about it.
I,m in a pictuur mood !!
Anny off you all want to see somthing ??
Just ask :-)
from a cold Holland !
jimmy
:duh:
hi Paul, is it "Pucci" dress?? if is yes then 1961 or 1962 (sure, look at her hairstyle), hilton?? i´m not sure
I was just wondering that too Jimmy. Could it have been in Mexico?
Found two more which seem to go with the ones on page 2 of this topic, the party of Herman Hover...
Suusmarie
hahahhahaha marilyn looks so funny in that last picture!!!!
Those were great Jimmy. Didn't she look beautiful in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?! I love her gloves and leopard wrap.
wee
jimmy, paul, and stacy

weee! LOL don't mind my sound effects... *shy*
Love the pilgram pic. That will make a cute Thanksgiving card!
It,s to bad you can,t see the rest off the pictuur :-( it,s to big for my scanner Hiihihihi
jimmy

Did you get the magazine which Marilyn is in the training of the Yankee? then CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!
WoW 8-O , fabulous pictires Stacy, thank you so much
!!!
Suusmarie
I got the magazine, but not the one I bid on originally. Thank goodness, it went for 166.00 US dollars!
Another seller contacted me and offered me the magazine for a far lower price. Yeah!!! We all win!
Thanks to all you too for your wonderful scans. Together, we have quite a collection!
mmm-more
the last one is credited to Powolny in the July 1951 edition of Photoplay.
What do you think?
Stacy i made a cd for you !
Audio on and a pictuur one ! I lost your mail aders !
Can you mail that to me in prived ??
Love Jimmy
I think i lost it in londen when i sent you the card !
Sorry !
8-O
Stacy, I have no words
to thank you for sharing that series of photo´s of Marilyn at The Jack Benny Show!!
They are GREAT 8-O!! I´m so happy...it´s to much
!!!
Suusmarie
Hmm I'm not to sure about that one pic being taken by Powolny. I've always thought that one was taken by Leaf, but now I think it was taken by Frank Driggs. Confusion...
I'm confused too. Jeannette corrected me and it is the Frank Driggs Collection, he wasn't the photographer, as I once thought.
This is the only place were I've ever seen the photograph credited to anyone. So for now, I guess it's Powolny.
Here is a photo of Marilyn going into the Kruschev luncheon.
My friend Rebecca sent these to me.
The first three are from Screen Stories magazine, Feb 1961
hi stacy, about photo For My Friends, Marilyn by Frank Powolny.jpg it´s possible that it was taken on July 1950 (look at her style), but... frank powolny??? I have always thought than that photographer took pictures with glamour and not in casual moments 8-O
I agree with you Jeannette, it just doesn't seem his style does it?
The photo could have been taken early, you're right, it just appeared in the 1951 edition of Photoplay. I agree, it's an earlier style than 1951.
I'm attaching some pics from an October 1953 Movie Time magazine. They originally appeared in a Pix magazine from late 1951.
A couple more from the article, this time with Cary Grant and Micheal Rennie.
Thank you suusmarie for your compliments. You have blown me away with your rare posting too! I love the little stretcher icon. Too cute!
I give you a kiss, a hop, and a wiggle...
ops, sorry, I meant 1950 and not 1951. What do you think?? in 1951 her hair was shorter and in 1950 she was picked up (is this in english? 8-O )her hair
Do these last pictures belong to the article of the magazine pix " "Pix goes shopping with Marilyn"? (only using different suits) do you have more information?
and rennie and grant?? why? "this" rennie is the designer?? singer? actor?
what´saks? a shop of fashion?
thanx for share them
adore anything information
The article was entitled an 18 Hour Shift, and followed Marilyn from getting up through her day and going to bed.
The photos of Cary Grant and actor Micheal Rennie were included to show Marilyn busy at the studio.
These particular photos were from an October 1953 magazine.
In another magazine, circa 1951, in the aforementioned article, "Pix Goes Shopping With Marilyn," some of these were used for that article.
Here is another rare photo of Marilyn with fellow houseguest Bertha Stafford-Vester. They both spent a weekend at the Connecticut home of Fleur Cowles. This was while Marilyn was in hiding in late 1954 and early 1955. Mrs. Vester was an American who lived in Israel, and looked after poor, orphaned Arab children.
This is an interesting one from their wedding day, June 29, 1956.
You have killed me Jimmy. Those are great
I adore both sitting so!
If I am the picture queen you are the god!
mm :amisfits:
I can't find the correct thread for this photo. Sorry, I'm old.
The icon of her in her cherries dress playing paddle ball it too cute!
Brandon, you have made all of our lives richer by these little homages to Marilyn. There are no words to adequately express my thanks.
I'll give you a kiss instead...
:agpb2: Thank you Jimmy!
Those are great. Loved the one where she's watcing batting practice.
Absolutely wonderful Stacy and Jimmy!! My mouth is open all the time!!

Here are a couple more of Marilyn attending the Kruchev luncheon.
I know I'm not spelling it right. sorry.
Anyway...If you will look on the www.britishpathe.com site they have
made alot of stills from thier newsreels. The only bad thing is they come with a huge orange watermark across them that you have to clean off.
That's where I got the close ups that I posted on the Marilyn in London thread.
:aredsitting: It will be our little secret! ha
Who took qwe-23? Does anyone know?
I almost forgot to say how much I love the River of No Return :aronr: pic you posted Jimmy. She is adorable in that one.

From my friend Rebecca...15 year old Norma Jeane.
Norma Jeane made the doodles on her photo.
ohhhhhhhhh
so that's why she looks so weird!
stephanie and i were talking about it on another thread... and we were like "woah... what's up with her lips and her eyelashes!"
but that's soooo cool!

mm
Finally...proof that Carl Perutz took these photos!!!
hey guys, thanks for this topic - it's amazing how many great pics ... especially the Richard Miller one in the water and the absolute rare ones from the JFK Birthday.
to you all for sharing!
I don't know if I have posted this ones before; I can't remember where I found them; Marilyn with Clash by Night Producer Jerry Wald. Enjoy
WOW!!!! THAT`S AMAZING all these great pics....!!! WOW!!!
holy S****
those are truly magnificient
mm
How funny...I didn't post mine here, I posted them on Jeannettes Thread,
Incredibly Unpublished!"
I love them!
My thoughts...
1. I wonder if Norma Jeane colorized the bathing suit and heels herself?
2. Do these women with Norma Jeane look like co-workers from Radio Plane?
3. This is Norma Jeane at Lake Sherwood, California, where she went with Jim for her honeymoon. Her fishing license is pinned to her blouse.
mm
I thought this was interesting...It is signed, "To Grace and Daddy...
Always Lovingly, Norma Jeane."
There were rumors that Doc Goddard had molested Norma Jeane and
that's why Grace put her in foster homes. But Marilyn always had
a seemingly good relationship with Doc, even after Grace's death.
He and his new wife even attended her funeral.
OMG
Suusmarie those are absolute amazing!!!!! Does someone ever contact the seller, where on earth he get all those rare pics of?
I wonder especially about the one of NJ on their first honeymoon pic. I think that could only be taken by Jim himself and I wonder, where the seller got it from (maybe from Jimmy Dougherty himself?) It was just something I was thinking of...
mm
I've contacted the seller. They know nothing about the history of the photographs.
They purchased a big lot of photos from the archives of Photoplay magazine and
that's where these have been for the longest time. The autographed photo of Marilyn is not an original signature, just a reproduction from the archives and
probably appeared in the magazine at one time or other.
As for the rare, rare Norma Jeane photos...I'm not sure where they came from.
I recognize a couple they had from Berniece's book. Maybe they won them at an auction.
What age would you say she is in Suusmaries' Pics???
Caoimhe
I would say that the first (of Suusmarie 3 pics) is from 1945, the second from 1944~1945 and the third from 1942.
Thanks Nina....
est-ce que quelqu'un peut me renseigner sur la photo avec la robe lamée. où, quand, qui et pourquoi?
traduction:
can somebody inform me about the photograph with the spangled dress where, when, which and why?
hi La Mite, do you mean the picture in which marilyn wears the golden dress? then is a publicity for Gentlemen prefer blondes, the picture means that the girl prefers a rich man to a hefty man (I read it in a book)
do you remember the Diamonds´ lyric? ...
OH MY GOD!!! i can`t get over these great pics!!! WOW
Is it me or does Marilyn look fabulous in this dress and those heels, if I wore heels like that I would probably fall down alot.
mm
I thought this photo was interesting for several reasons. On the surface it looks like just another costume test for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
If you look at the board you can see several different things.
1. She is wearing a belt with this dress, which never made it into the film or the publicity photos.
2. This is the wrong hairstyle. She will wear a smooth pageboy with this
dress in the movie.
3. The date is November 12, 1952. This is a key to how she wore her
hair at that time.
Enjoy!
ho srepac, de cette série, c'est vrai que les photos sont rares
traduction:
Ho srepac, this series, it is true that the photographs are rare
OH MY GOD DOMINIQUE, that last one is so... so... HAHAHAHAHAHA curious??? hahahahaha

woah!
i didn't know there was a person there!!!!!! thanks!
That´s Sidney Skolski
Here are some I found at Breatless which I had never seen before.
What`s up with that first one? what is that?
They say it was Marilyn visiting hospitals... visiting the sick and the dying. She went there to talk to patients. I don't know if it was 1954 or 1956. Maybe Jeannette or Stacy would know more. I am curious too. But thats all I know... :zz?:
you are right glamour!, she´s visiting a hospital in Korea during her honeymoon. February 1954
La Mite I really like those last pictures you posted! I love that shoot and I have never seen any other images from that day! They are very candid. Where did you find them?

Marilyn at the Jack Benny Show, from a 1954 article.
I love the rehearsal one where she is pretending to
cut his hair.

perfect stacy! thanx
I love the pics you all have posted!! Stacy , Vane, Jimmy , Susmarie, thanks a lot!!!!!!
does someone know who took this? It's from the ebay seller Maryspaper again
I wish i had Maryspaper collection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mm
Thanks everyone.
The close up is as Jeannette
says, it is from the session with Marilyn and the bathing suit and holding sea coral. I think it is by Powolony.
I'm not sure who took the early photo of Marilyn in the negligee. Possibly Laszlo Willinger?!
I have a question. Is the dress she´s wearing blue or white? In some photos appears to be white. On the other hand at Christies auction there was a pink version. DOes anyone know how the actual dress was, did she have two versions of the dress in different colours? Thanks guys.
gray according to christie´s
la última foto ha sido retocada por el responsable de maquetación o diseño de la revista, seguramente
She had a grey and a red one. The red one was used in the Greene session
.
I´m sorry about the terrible bad scan.......!
Suusmarie
Thanks for your answer girls!
Have you ever thought that the red dress shot was in 1957 and Let´s make love in 1960? Where they different dresses or the same design in different colours? It seems strange that Marilyn wore the same dress for so long, though I know she did with some dresses, but that one , I don´t know, I cannot think of her using a dress for a movie, that she had used 3 years before. What do you think?
