What is podcasting? Basically you can think of it as "radio shows" that you download to your mp3 player and listen to at your leisure. You'd be amazed at the amount of podcasts available now on every topic....and I have created the first Marilyn Monroe podcast called "My Marilyn". You subscribe to podcasts with software you download to your computer. It automatically downloads new shows for you when they become available.
For more info on my podcast check it out at http://marilynmonroe.ca/podcast Melinda |

Ah shucks! Thanks! No you don't need to have an ipod to listen to it. It downloads to your computer and then you can put it onto your ipod (or other MP3 player) and listen to it on the go. Or you can just listen on your computer. Just warning you that the files are pretty big! I use the ipodder software at http://ipodder.sourceforge.net/index.php and you just subscribe to different feeds and it downloads them all for you when new ones are put up. That is cool so you don't have to keep checking different websites to see if a new show has been posted. Also, I can keep track of how many downloads I get that way. When you download the MP3 straight from the site I can't track it. Sure hope my bandwidth holds out!! If you like my podcast you can vote for it at Podcast alley http://www.podcastalley.com/search.php?searchterm=marilyn |

Just wanted to mention that I have uploaded my second show. It features a wonderful song that was based on the Christies auction and how sad it was to see her personal items up for sale. So I hope you check it out.
Instructions for subscribing: 1. Download ipodder at http://ipodder.sourceforge.net/index.php 2. Open up the software and in the space next to "add feed manually" paste this link http://feeds.feedburner.com/MyMarilynPodcast and then hit the ADD button. At the bottom you'll see a button that says "Check for new podcasts" and the shows should download for you automatically. If you have any questions about my show or podcasting in general just let me know. Thanks! Melinda |

Hi Melinda,
What a great idea! I don't have an iPod but another (which I consider better than an iPod, actually) mp3 player. Since the show should also work for my player, I will gladly download your shows!!! Mels |

Thanks! That is great. My boyfriend has an iriver and I am envious of it actually. It is soooo much smaller than the iPod. Anyway, I hope you like the show.

Melinda,
I am working on updating ES, is it okay if I mention the podcast you created ? (I will, naturally, provide a link to your site (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif) ) Also, I just wanted to let you know that I have listened to it and that because it was so interesting I actually stopped doing whatever it was I was doing, and listened through it all without doing anything else LOL! I love how you talk about various subjects and explain things for people who are not that familiar with Marilyn... Great idea you had. I can hardly wait for the next shows! Oh and that song "Marilyn's things"... is a great finding. I am always so disgusted by the fact that so many personal items were sold... to perfect strangers. What is even worse is how instead of keeping everything together, and creating some kind of museum or something, the estate is only trying to make profit. Soon we won't have anything concrete of Marilyn's to rely on. Just like if she hadn't existed. I think this is terribly depressing. Thanks for listening to it! And I'm glad you liked Marilyn's Things, I can't believe it wasn't popular in the Marilyn groups when the auction was taking place. It is so beautifully written and performed. And the message really gets across how sad these auctions really are.
Thanks again, Melinda QUOTE(mels @ Apr 24 2005, 12:04 PM) Melinda,

I can't remember the last time I listened to music on my iPod. Now it is all podcasts. I have it hooked up in my car so on my drive to work I put them on. So it is just like I'm listening to the radio. I really think this podcasting thing is going to be huge. As soon as some big names get involved. I believe Paris Hilton is the first celebrity doing one and it starts later this week. Anyway, thanks for listening. Melinda |

I am not sure if any of you are familiar with Sirius Radio (http://www.sirius.com) which is a satellite radio station? Well, starting today at 6pm Adam Curry is going to be doing a 4 hour podcast show. Bascially, promoting podcasting to radio listeners. Each hour he will be showcasing 1 podcast and I just found out that he is going to be playing my Marilyn podcast! He did a test run that is available for download at http://www.curry.com/2005/05/11 and my entire 25 minute show is played. I am just stunned out of the thousands of podcasts out there he would chose to highlight mine!!!
