I have never seen many of these photos; Marilyn (or Norma Jean) was very tender and sweet, she was an adorable child.
When I think to her terrible childhood I would cry... (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/no.gif)

Perhaps Marilyn's childhood wasn't so tragic as we learn from many books about her, but of course it wasn't so happy and easy... (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes1.gif)

That's not true, MM's childhood was a horrible time.

It was an awful childhood - not so much in terms of poverty and abuse, but she never knew her father and her mother was taken from her in the cruellest way. She was moved from one home to another, and although mostly the people who cared for her meant well, it never lasted for long. She could never be certain of anyone's love, and was neglected at times. I also think it's quite possible that she was molested by one of the many strangers whose lives she passed through.

While it's true that the publicity machine sometimes exaggerated the physical deprivation of Marilyn's childhood, emotionally she was always lacking. Thank goodness for people like Ana, who was loving and kind, but a little girl needs someone to be there for her always. In some of these photos she looks happy, but then kids are very adaptable. She didn't know any different, to her it was normal. It's only when she got older that the effects of her lost childhood became ever clearer to her.

There is a mystery around pics 1-3 below, if it is Norma Jeane or not. Well, take a look at the known Norma Jeane photos, pics 4-6. Her hair seems to be the same style and length. She is wearing a very similar white dress. Take a look at the shoes, they seem to be the same also. Also, the pics where she is laughing, they seem reminiscent of the Norma Jeane pic.

In my opinion I think pics 1-3 are her. Your thoughts?

It's odd, this child in the first pictures has a different vibe to her, she seems to me like a happy, spoilt child, from her attitude and the fact she's photographed alone, someone took the time to fuss around her.... Of course, I'm not saying it's not little Norma Jeane, just that my intuition says (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/no.gif)

I think the pics were taken at christmas time. You barely can see some tree ornaments hanging in the background. And we all know she was ALWAYS happy, no matter the occassion. That was Norma Jeane being Norma Jeane. Of course we can't get a definate if it's her. I wish we could. I especially love the 3rd pic, holding up the mirror in her left hand and comb in the right. She was trying to look pretty even at that age (assuming it's her of course!).

personally i also think it is Norma Jeane in those pics. And like megan said Norma jeane always tried to be happy no matter what her childhood was like. You always can see her smiling in almost every childhood picture of her.

Oh yes, what I meant was the person who photographed her did a whole session with her alone and seemed to give her a lot of attention. I can't remember many Norma Jeane pics where shes alone, let alone a 'session'. Just a thought, might very well be wrong (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/hug.gif) And I wouldn't mind being proven wrong one bit, I love finding new pics of her, especially childhood ones, which are so rare!

I see what you mean. My first daughter, i fussed and fussed with her to try to make her look perfect for pictures. I went overboard! When my second daughter came i was much more relaxed and less fussy. The pictures were still beautiful. It was me.
