Hello,
I hope you might be able to help me. I received a framed Niagara Poster for my birthday and my husband was told it was an original. Does anyone know how to tell if it is an original or copy?
Thanks in advance.

Glenda.

Hi Glenda,

I hope you don't mind I've moved your post - because you've added no pic. And btw, also WELCOME to ES (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif)

And do you think you can tell us more about the poster? The more we know, the better we find out (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/wink3.gif) And it would be great if you could post a pic. There are many different poster editions out... what makes your husband think it's an original (movie poster from the 50's)?

(IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/welcomeani.gif) !

What I know about original posters is little but here it is:

- number, year and studioname at the bottomrow,
- paper is not as shiny as paper these days, it feels like you could crumbel it,
- they smell like old books,
- they have standard sizes, like One-sheet or Three-sheet and so on...

Thats what I can think of right now (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/coolio.gif) ...

My husband bought it from a movie shop where they assured him it was original. After looking at copied posters it certainly looks much better quality, but the only copyright thing on it is from John Faber Productions and it says printed in the Netherlands. After asking the movie shop they assured us it was original and was probably from a European release. We where told there was a studio name and number along the bottom, supposedly hidden by the frame, so we took it out of the frame and found that the poster has no edges on it and nothing written about the studio, only the copyright from John Faber. After questioning the seller he got quite adamant that he does not sell copies and that it would be worth twice what we paid if we sold it on ebay. But how do we really know if it is real or not?

Oh...well I come from the Netherlands and I am afraid John Faber is just a posterprint production company (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/hmm.gif) , atleast it is not a filmstudio or something. I think you might have been the victim of a seller who does not know what he is talking about (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/thumbdown.gif) .
Every (forein) original poster has the USA studioname on the bottom...
