Do you guys know the book 'Marilyn' by photographer Andre DeDienes? It's available by Taschen. The original book is EUR 200.00 and I really wanted it for a long time. But now Taschen has published the book in a small version. That is only EUR 30.00! Isn't that great? I bought it yesterday in the local bookstore. The book has amazing photographs of the beginning of Marilyn's career 'till she was a becoming the huge moviestar. In the book you can read DeDienes memoires about Marilyn. I think it's always great the hear people who personally knew Marilyn, speak about her. The pictures in the book are almost all published before, but still it's eyecandy to have on your bookshelf and to go through sometime. I love it (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)

I also bought the book 'Legandary Loves: Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe', wich is published in Germany and Holland (for the Dutch around here: you can buy it at De Slegte and other voordeelboeken winkels). I bought it for EUR 0,75! Isn't that a bargain? (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/thumbup1.gif)

Hugs,
Marloes

Edit: I've added a picture of the book

That's great! (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/syimarilyn_161_733.gif)
I once saw the big 200 € version of the book in a bookstore and it was HUGE! I flipped through it but it was too expensive for me. How small is the smaller version? I could maybe afford that one... (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)

Yeah....(IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif) I was kinda annoyed that they started selling these things separately since I paid over 200 euros for it...well, I guess it was my stupidity (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Aaanyways, I think the book is exactly the same but they sell it separately. Also they sell what was in the box set, I.e. Andre DeDienes´s diary which they published in his handwriting, errors and all. I found that really interesting.
I bet it is really easy now to find these items since they published them. Paju, at least Suomalainen bookstore had that diary one (with a "mag" of MM magazine appearences including Me Naiset) for like 20 euros. Go take a look.

I was also a little bit sad that they began selling the things seperated because I've asked myself for what I payed so much money - guess it was for the kodak-box (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) - however, I agree - 29.99 EUR for the book is ok.

To Mandy:

I have messured the book: it's 25x31cm (met een liniaal (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ), it was EUR 29,99 and I bought it at a Plantage Boekhandel, that's one of the better bookstores here in our little country. It's got all the same pictures as the big version, but this version doesn't have the beautiful box, the handwritten diary and the booklet with all the covers with Marilyn on it. But that saves you EUR 170,01, so you might as well print the covers, search on the internet for the handwritten diary and get crafty making the box yourself (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/laughing.gif) (that's not as nice as having the real one, but well). Good luck finding it! It's an awesome book!

Hugs,
Marloes

I bought it last friday in a bookshop in the beginning of the Utrechtstraat (vanaf Rembrandt-Plein gezien). I saw it in the shopwindow as I passed the shop, stopped in my trackes and went in to buy it! I never saw the name of the bookstore thought... (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/blush.gif)
Anyway, they had more copies left in case the other thing doesn´t work out..

I decided I'm going to get this book. Yes, I'm also planning to get Milton's Marilyn but since I'm working again, I can spend some of my money to MM stuff, right... right? (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/yes.gif) (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/yes.gif) (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/yes.gif)
Now I'll only have to decide which book to order first (Milton or this one). I'm also trying to find Sam Shaw's Marilyn Among Friends somewhere - Merja or Norma, do you have an idea where I could find it? (Suomalainen does not have it anymore)

I have both books and love them both. But imo if I had to pick one I would go for Milton's Marilyn.
But that's just my opinion.I'm curious what other people have to say about that.

hi Paju how are youuuuuuuuuuu???? I have both books too and I'd recommend the De Dienes book over Milton's since Milton's Marilyn doesnt have any rare pictures and some of the pics are very very small anyways... the biggest pictures are the size of a square pocket book and some of the pics posted here on ES are really, better quality :(

Paju,
Since Among Friends is out of print I guess you cannot order it from any bookstore - my best bet would be ebay (They have several copies I think) or used books dealers that work for barnes and noble and/or Amazon. (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)
