A few weeks I received "Marilyn, the New York years" by Sam Shaw
My verdict is... suspended
They have deceived to us...
I don´t like very much this book, most of the photos they are not unpublished and they are very few photos, many of them occupy 2 pages and others appear small in a almost empty page, there are not commentaries on the photos and some texts are in German (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)

Why are the comments in german? Isn't the book in english? Had most of the pictures been published before this book was out?

hey valerie, that is what I ask myself
why are in german and english, too? the publishing house is German, it could be a reason
most of the photos they are known, although there are many unpublished when she is taking a walk with Miller in NYC

Yes that could be the reason. Anyone else has ordered. received this book and was disappointed as well? I'm asking since I want to be sure of what I'm buying before I'm buying it (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif)

I agree with you Jeannette, the book isn't one of the best and btw, they were talking about over 100 unpublished photos and if you remember my post in the old forum, I was very upset with that book too. They put sometimes only one pic on one site without text and as far as I know, it's only published in german language and not available in english.

I think they just wanted to be sure that it's well sold and they "pushed" the unpublished pics from 10 to 100

I must agree with the others, it is actually a shame they put it out on the market (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/mf_tongue.gif) . But I must admit that I bought it knowing it was horrible (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/blushing.gif) , I like my bookcollection to get as complete as possible (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) !

traduction:

I am not of the same opinion that you all.
it is true that there are not the 100 new photographs which had been anoncées, but, I find this book very touching when I settle calmly and that I it feuillète, I would believe myself with them.
now, it may be that my judgement is distorted, of the fact, that I was likely great to meet larry shaw, and that I had the occasion to speak about this book with him.

Oh well I'm in doubt again (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) I suppose that it could be worth it, depending on the price though

I was so excited when I first heard about this book, I was sure I would get it... but now I'm not that sure. I'm leaning towards Marilyn Among Friends more (I actually tried to get it but it was sold out).

Well I remember that someone had posted scans on the old boards... Probably Nina... and honestly... I think the book is so much not worth it's price... (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)

for those who are doubting, I got you my advice:
if you doesn´t matter to pay for by any thing on Marilyn, you would have to acquire book (after all it is appreciated to have it)
but if you economy is "poor" I don´t recommend it, but I would buy it, mainly to have a book with photos.
The content is poor, but if you are little demanding, mainly if you are beginning to know Marilyn Monroe, I you I recommend it.

sorry my poor english

I actually liked the book. I admit it didn´t perhaps have as many unpublished photos as I expected, BUT if you like Sam Shaw pictures of MM AND if you don´t have his previous books THEN you should get it. If you have "Marilyn among friends" and don´t feel like you have to get everything and all the new books (like I do - wish I had the money to do it too) then it might be more disappointing. All In all I thought the book was beautiful, and rather good quality. Or am I just biased because I like Larry Shaw too? (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Val, if you not already own them, I should go for the other two books by Sam Shaw: Marilyn amongs Friends and The joy of Marilyn in the Camera Eye. These are in my opinion far better books on MM than the NY one (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) !
We are not making it easy for you now are we (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/wink3.gif) ?!

I have got the book, and I really enjoy it ! But I don't have many pictures books of Marilyn, maybe this is why I like it ?

I have jsut received Hometown Girl. I did not have time to look at it; Do you Have it ?
