Found this on the net:

At the time of her death, she had $2,200 in her checking account, but a two-day October 1999 Christie's auction of her belongings raised $13.4 million.

Her books alone raised $475,000 and the money was donated to Literacy Partners, an organization that teaches 1 million New Yorkers to read and write.

The scars revealed in Bert Stern's photographs on her tummy, were a result of a Gall Bladder surgery six months prior to their session.

You can see them in these Barris shots. I never noticed any in Stern's photos.

This has always confused me! The gall bladder is located on the right side of the body - under the right ribcage (and when it is inflamed, the pain is ... TERRIBLE! I have been hospitalized with it - not fun). That is an odd mark in the Barris photos, but it is not a gall bladder scar. It is on the wrong side, too low, and too far to the side.

So i have no idea what that is! Did she possibly have a birthmark there? It looks more like a mark than a scar - surgical scars are usually thinner and more clean, straight. (i have one of those too!).

The scar from Marilyn's gall-bladder op is very visible in some of the Bert Stern photos, particularly one of her fooling with a red chiffon scarf. Marilyn is grinning, and holding up the scarf up to reveal the livid scar, which is about 5in long just under her right breast, as if to say 'So what? I'm only human!'

I think the mark above her left hip is obviously a bruise. Marilyn bruised very easily.

I know barely anything about Marilyn Monroe. I saw a few of her movies and see her pics. I joined to know more. I heard that Marilyn died in a car accident then was told that she was found in her bed. Some say she committed suicide others say she was murdered. But I thought it was nice she cared for the poor and for the birds.

You could have also read about Lady Diana, people most always compare them!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/throb.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/marilynbybrandon_190.gif) I did not know that about Milton Greene! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) And I always thought he was just a photographer she was friends with! I had no idea he held that much sway over her!

Poor Marilyn - sometimes it seems that everyone she knew just used her. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/no.gif)

Good for Marilyn giving away the money to the homeless people though! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clapping.gif)

Milton Greene was a longstanding friend of Marilyn. He and his wife supported her financially through the lean years.
He became Marilyn's business partner, with 49% of Marilyn Monroe Productions, Inc.
On some copies of TPASG he is credited as Executive Producer. They parted company after he was accused of 'financial irregularities', which he always denied.
Arthur Miller probably engineered the separation.

Louie, find After The Fall by Arthur Miller and have a read of it, then you'll find out that what you said is an understatement.

Everyone calls Paula and Lee Strasberg every name under the sun (and deservedly so) for helping to hold Marilyn's head under water but the real enemy was one Arthur Asher Miller. I seem to remember from my marriage vows that you're supposed to love the person you marry...not use their pain to write yourself out of a block.

Well this isn't really trivia but as I was reading thru my fave book "The Ultimate Look At The Legend" I spotted a couple of things that I didn't know and never noticed previously so I thought I'd share it with you guys and ladies:

1. Marilyn used to go out with her chauffeur and hair-dresser Peter Leonardi to the Bowery. Marilyn (in disguise) would walk along the streets, handing out money to the poor people living there. Now the interesting thing about this is that the only money Marilyn would have max is $40 8-O - $40 spending money allowance was given to her by Milton Greene every week. The rest of her money was totally under Greene's control so everytime she would run out of money, she'd have to wait till next week's allowance to pay back Peter or if she wanted to buy anything for herself (Greene covered her rent, groceries, etc.)! This totally shocked me, now I know that Milton was a business partner of hers but I never knew that he had that tight of a hold over MM's finance... MM obviously wasn't greedy about money and trusted Greene a lot!

2. Marilyn used to go to the end of 58th Street New York and meet a couple of young boys who trapped brids to sell them at a meat market for 50 cents a piece. Now instead of handing the birds over to be slaughtered for food, MM would pay these boys to release the birds...

3. If you watch the Happy Birthday clip in any documentary, Peter Lawford introduces MM several times before she actually comes out. Now this adds to the well-known myth that she was completely drunk and wasted and that night so that it took several calls before she could actually come out on stage. It not true though, MM didn't appear earlier because she WASN'T supposed to appear! The earlier intro's were supposed to tease the audience for the grande finale: Marilyn and the Happy Birthday Cake! The gag was all supposed to be for fun and was INTENTIONAL! The whole drunk story I guess just sounded better to those who wanted to depict MM as an out of control diva. Also, Marilyn was hardly dead-drunk considering how she was responsible for keeping her 80+ year-old father-in-law Isadore Miller company and bringing him home after the party.

4. To those of us who has a "tick", I thought it was rather surprising that MM herself had one! According to Haspiel, MM's tick was that when she opened the door at 155 East 93rd Street, the first thing she would do after stepping out of it, every time, as she stepped out on to the street, she would cup her hand in front of her mouth and cough into it, then she would look up. You could count on this, you could bet the house on it... according to Mr. Haspiel (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laughing.gif) I just thought that was too cute!

Okay this is all for now, I'll add more later (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) [/b]
wow, i never knew those things... awww, she was such a kind and loving person

What looks to be a scar on the image could possible be some sand from where she has been swimming in the sea and sitting on the sand?

I know her gall bladder scar was on her left side and quite high up as shown in some of the Bert Stern images (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif)

WHOA- look how much Marilyn and Jean Harlow had in common (besides the obvious (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ):

While attending a football game, Harlow pointed to a husky member of a team and said to Bern, her then husband, "Daddy, buy me that (Marilyn was known to call her husbands "Daddy" or "Pops," "Da," or "Pa.")

Jean was known as a voracious reader.

Had a habit of speaking of herself in the third person.

She suffered from a severe inferiority complex. If anyone did anything for her, she'd give them a present, expressing gratitude for practically nothing.

Never wore any underwear whatsoever

Never won an Oscar.

Always slept in the nude.

"I am not a party hound." - Jean Harlow

"Underwear makes me uncomfortable and besides my parts have to breathe." - Jean Harlow

wow that last quote by harlow is so similar to this one by marilyn: "I never wear stockings or underclothes because I think it is important to breathe freely."

and that thing about marilyn paying the boys to release the birds is so cute, something marilyn would have definately done.
