August 5 marks 51 years since Marilyn Monroe died of a barbiturates overdose at the age of 36.

The Hollywood Museum in Los Angeles is home to the worlds biggest collection of memorabilia honouring the star and fans flock from all over the world for a taste of her old style magic.

A highlight of the collection is the navy blue sequinned dress the Some Like It Hot star wore to entertain US troops in Korea in 1954 while on honeymoon with baseball star Joe DiMaggio.

Donelle Dadigan, president of the museum, said: "We call it the million-dollar dress but in reality it is worth far more than that."

She added: "When it came here, under armed guard if you can believe, and we opened it the essence of Marilyn wafted out and we could smell her favourite perfume, Chanel No 5."

Many of the exhibits are owned by two private collectors, whose memorabilia is now worth millions of dollars.
