The other day, Paul did something great, he told us what had happened on a March 5th of Marilyn's life. And I thought it was such a wonderful idea... So... I'll try to post a "Today In Marilyn's history" thread everyday... at least when I don't forget it and when i have time... That said, feel free to post any event of this kind too !

So... Today is March 10th... What kind of memories of such a day Marilyn could have ??

On March 10th 1948, Marilyn Monroe met Natacha Lytess for the first time. Natacha then became her acting coach and friend until March 3rd 1956, when she was asked to never contact Marilyn again.

Picture information : Marilyn with her drama coach, Natasha Lytess, on the set of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, 1953. This photo was published in the May 1953 issue of Family Circle.

On March 12th 1956, Marilyn missed her plane by twenty minutes. It was bound for Pheonix, Arizona. The plane was to take the cast and crew of Bus Stop to a location shoot scheduled for March 15 th.

She finally made it on time for the beginning of the shooting.

When she returned from New York in order to film Bus Stop, Marilyn learnt that Natacha was planning to write a book on her, that was supposed to say everything about Marilyn. You know how much this is was a love killer for Marilyn, and she immediatly dismissed Natasha and asked to never see her again.

When she was in New York, she started going to the Actors' Studio where Lee Strastberg and Paula, his wife, became her friends AND acting coaches... so maybe Marilyn would have asked Natasha to step away anyways.

The official reason that was given was the book issue.

On March 13, 1952, an article published in the Los Angeles Times revealed that Marilyn was the girl from the famous "Golden Dreams" calendar.

Marilyn admited it was her and that she felt nothing was wrong with doing so, that she needed money badly.

Tom Kelley was the photographer. See the attachement below the picture to read the article from the Los Angeles Times and Marilyn's answers to the accusation.

On March 14th 1948, Ana Lower died at age of sixty-eight.
Ana was the aunt of Grace McKee Goddard, Glady's friend who raised Norma Jeane for quite a while. Norma Jeane spent nearly nine years under Ana's care, and came to call her her aunt. It was also Ana Lower who introduced Norma Jeane to Christian Science. Marilyn had once claimed that Aunt Ana was the only person she believed to have truly loved her.

"Aunt Ana" is buried at Westwood Memorial Park, near Marilyn.

On March 15th 1956 Marilyn and the Bus Stop cast and crew filmed the rodeo scenes for the afore mentionned movie. The scene was shot during a real rodeo event, which had already been schedule before.

There was close to no chances for mistakes since once the rodeo done, the scenes for the movies could not be redone.

Here's a rare pic taken by Milton Greene during a pause while they were shooting the rodeo scenes.

Oh Jeannette, I'm sorry, I can't remember :( I think i made that capture last year... It was not a documentary on Bus Stop though... Now that I think about it I remember the night when I taped it, there were two documentaries, one very general about Marilyn's life - I'd have to look for my tape and look at the title - and the one right after was called "Marilyn malgré elle", which I guess is "Marilyn vs Marilyn" because it only deals with Marilyn and Milton and has TONS of unpublished Marilyn pics... I know you have captured these pics yourself to clean them so maybe you can have a look at them and see if you have that one in your files ? If you do, well it's that it comes from "Marilyn vs Marilyn" and if you don't... I guess it's from that other docu... I'll go and see if I can find my tape to give you the title (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif)

On March 30th, 1955, Marilyn rode the pink elephant at Madison Square Garden.
The elephant was thirty-six years old and named Karnaudi. The event benefited the Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation.
