We are currently in the process of reorganizing this forum, but our goal is to have only one thread for each photographer or photosession.

From now on, before you post anything, please make sure that there isn't already a thread regarding the subject of your post you could reply to instead of starting a new one. You can either browse all the pages in this forum or use the search engine.

When starting a new thread, please try to be as specific as possible (photographer name or photoshoot name & date). If you can't be specific enough, it is possible that a moderator or an administrator edits your title and changes to something that will work better for the search engine. Thanks!

Hi guys,
Would it be possible to open a thread under photographers for Ed Baird of the photos he took of our Marilyn in 1947? I could not see one for him.
Many thanks

You just did! I've often wondered though if the poses of her golfing were shot by Baird. There is no indication of that from his letter. I always got the impression he just snapped off a couple shots of her in passing.

Hi there!
Thanks so much for your reply. Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for the photos. Yes you have a good point there, not too certain that these were taken by him. However seeing that we have no other clues at this stage, we might as well put it under his name. I agree with you though.
Others, if you have photos of marilyn posing on the fox lot the same outfit with the milkman and walking around in shorts and a sweater please post.
Thanks all of you marilyn fans out there

Pics 9, 10 and 11 are actually from the Pacific Coast Antique Show at the Pan-Pacific Auditorium, April 25-28, 1949. I don't think Ed Baird shot any of these except for the ones with the bag with the shoulder strap. She is just coincidentally wearing the same outfit, which she did often. I would love to find some conclusive evidence of the photographers on all these! But in the meantime, like you said, Livia, at least we have a place to put all the pictures of her in this outfit until we do! Here are a couple more from the Fox lot.

What are your source for these picture with swimsuit black and white ?
http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/?showtopic=15050

For me, Edward Baird shot only the pictures with MM dressed in light-pink-cashemere sweater for golf tournament in LA Country Club (see his letter above).

Hi all,

As far as I can tell, there are only 3 (three) photos of Marilyn by Ed Baird in this thread. (They are in the third, fourth and fifth picture which Jim uploaded in his first post.) The rest of the pictures were shot by other photographers.

Ed Baird, just as he tells his story, had a little camera, saw this beautiful girl, asked her if he could take a few snaps, did so to the amount of three. She said thanks and went on her way. That's it. Three snapshots of Marilyn, that's all that Ed Baird took of Marilyn on this beautiful day. And to tell from Baird's letter, they never saw each other again.

And all of a sudden there are some 20 other photos posted which Baird had nothing to do with at all.

It amazes me how easily people jump to erroneous conclusions regarding Marilyn photographers. Then these false guessworks keep getting spread around the world as facts, although they are not...

Lasse

You're right.... and unfortunately, you'll still find a lot of mistakes since you did not come back here...
Now, any members (often new) made easy deductions because of the clothes are the same while the veracity of the photo credits is a huge job that we can collected by old magazines, inquisitions... and with some logic too...

Just found the California Country Club in Culver City, CA. It was established in 1917 and Chevoit Drive was in the middle of the course. In 1947 the Frank Borage celebrity golf tournament was held here. http://golfhistoricalsociety.org/californiacc/index.html
I think this is where the confusion of the "Chevoit Hills Golf Course" comes in. The name was changed to the Chevoit Hills Country Club in 1940, but it wouldn't be unusual for it to be referred to by the California Country Club. John Carroll and his group had a 12:40 Tee time. Included is a pic from 1951.

Thank you Stacy Frank Borzage helps.

Warren Cowan Legendary Hollywood press agent dies.

He was handling publicity for director Frank Borzage in 1950 when he came up with the idea of a celebrity sports tournament for charity to get the two-time Oscar winner's name in the news.

Thus was born the Frank Borzage Invitational Golf Tournament.

"To this one-day tournament came Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Mickey Rooney and many others," Cowan recalled. "The second year we got Marilyn Monroe to be the scorekeeper. I also arranged for Frank Sinatra to land on the first tee in a helicopter, get out carrying Bing Crosby's bag, and caddy for him. It was all fun and made for good coverage."

" The man in picture 3 is make up artist Layne "Shotgun" Britton "

You can clearly see Shotgun Britton's name on the newspaper article Suus posted.

Layne Britton (September 5, 1907 – December 12, 1993), sometimes credited as Shotgun Britton, was a makeup artist and actor in Hollywood from 1939 until 1989. He worked with many notable actors and musicians, such as Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, John Belushi, John Candy and Jane Russell. He had an extensive career in feature films and television, and a short career as an actor.

Great information! If I'm not mistaken, Kim Bassinger was married to Britton's son at one time. Not relevant, but interesting. And I agree, I think that's Britton with Marilyn.
