From what I understood from my google search it is mostly some kind of, perhaps amateurish, theater group that produces works by local playwrights and also classics at affordable ticket prices. http://www.playersring.org/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Players-Ring/89430342289. Also annual playwriting competition.

But was it the same in Marilyn times I don't know. Perhaps it was something similar to Actors Lab?

The Players' Ring was founded by Gary Newton. Here is a link to an article about it:http://archive.seacoastonline.com/2000news/6_5c.htm

It seems to me that I've seen other photos of Marilyn wearing that outfit (the moccasins were what tipped me off) and hairstyle. I'm thinking I saw them on this site. Does anyone remember any more about them?

That "Players Ring" is in New Hampshire, so obviously itīs not the same one.
There was a Players Ring Theatre in Hollywood, where actors/ future movie stars got acting lessons and appeared in plays to get attention from producers etc... I think a bit like Actors Lab like Magda said. (Not sure)
Tryout means audition. Either she didnīt make it or it was just a PR thing. I think no 2 (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/balloon.gif)

Yes, the Players' Ring Theater mentioned in the article is located in New Hampshire. However, in its early days, it was located in Los Angeles. The photo is dated 3/12/1950; on 3/27/1950 Marilyn landed her part in "All About Eve."

Jack.Nicholson.org refers to the Ring in Los Angeles:
"I really didn't have the nerve to say to myself, `I think I'll be an actor,' until I was well into it. I sort of drifted into it. I went to work at MGM as an office employee in the cartoon department, which was still active at that time. My boss was Bill Hanna, who passed on this year. He encouraged me to follow up on acting classes and all that. I got started, in a kind of foggy way, but I'm grateful for the way it went," he says.

Mr. Nicholson was associated with a theater company called the Players Ring, which staged plays at two locations in Hollywood. "There wasn't a lot of television work in L.A. when I got started, or much theater work either," he says. "This was before the Huntington Hartford Theatre was even built. Most of the theater was national touring companies. So a lot of the really good and ambitious actors in Hollywood were happy to work at the Ring."

The first play he did there had Michael Landon in it. "He went directly into the `Bonanza' series from it," Mr. Nicholson notes. "Same thing with Edd Byrnes, who got his Kookie role in `77 Sunset Strip' after making an impression at the Ring. And Robert Fuller, who went straight to a TV Western."

Bernie Kopell was active there in the 1960s, and Anthony Eisley of the television series "Hawaiian Eye" was active there in the 1950s.

F. Gary Newton also taught at UCLA prior to founding the theater.
