For me the woman looks totally like Marilyn. I believe it's her, especially there's no proof that would suggest otherwise.

That is certainly Marilyn on the couch, in an entirely characteristic sprawl.
The room looks a bit odd. That lighting thingy is straight out of the BBC TV production of Orwells' '1984', unless it's a mirror that has caught the photographer's flash.
The 'woman in black' bears an uncanny resemblance to Paula Strasberg.

Yep, that's MM for sure. And Paula. It's from SGTG. I just posted it to show that the Bob Crane photo was indeed taken in her dressing room. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbup1.gif)

Well, it certainly looks like her dressing room. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I may be mistaken, but I think this photo is from shooting Something's Got To Give.

The dressing or resting room may be at Fox Studios, but Marilyn probably didn't have "her own" dressing room at Fox since shooting SYI in fall of 1954 or January 1955 since she no longer was in exclusive contract with Fox.

Two years later she did Bus Stop with maybe a couple of weeks' studio time at Fox, then another two years till Some Like It Hot with maybe some months studio time at Fox, then another two years till Let's Make Love where she was at Fox studios for another run of several months, then they may have been at Fox studios for Misfits and then another two years till the short time she was on the set for Something's Got To Give.

I am sure that the room seen in these pictures was being used by many actors shooting at Fox studios, even after Marilyn's death.

Addition: Maybe if we'd get a list of Crane's other interviewees, we may find a likely candidate for the identification of the woman in the picture.

So part of this not being her is based on clothes that Marilyn couldn't have worn? Wow.

I just found some pics of MM from 1960 (with Sinatra). The clothes are somewhat similar. Slacks could be the type (tan colored), and the white sleeveless shirt (though possibly a sweater with Crane). Though the shirt is longer in Sinatras photos. So Marilyn did wear similar clothing at the very least as the supposed woman in the picture with Crane. My opinion only.

I currently don't have my copy of Monroe's 1955 contract, but I assure you that she was employeed by Fox, with the ability to do films at outside studios. She was "given" Dressing Room M around the time of "No Business Like Show Business". It had formerly belonged to Betty Grable, and it became Monroe's as sort of a symbol of her status as Fox's biggest money-maker.It was "hers" during "Show Business" mid-1954, "Seven Year Itch" late 1954, Bus Stop March-June 1956, "Let's Make Love" September 1959-June 1960, and "Something's Got to Give" from March-May 1962. So she used it quite a bit more than by your figuring. Fox certainly had the space for other dressing rooms and since they definitely wanted her to remain with the Studio, I can't imagine them allowing some obscure actress and radio show host to use her dressing room.Until you hear the snippet of interview explaining MM's outward appearance, it's easy to say that it isn't her.But it is.

EDIT: I just reread over my message now that it's posted and I hope I don't come across as some know-it-all windbag. But in doing a lot of Monroe based research for many projects, I've amassed a decent collection of facts and information that most people don't know about. Some people do pictures, I do nuggets of info.

Eric, Of course, you're right, it is Marilyn. There's nothing about that picture that would suggest otherwise. If for no other reason, the facial expression is one of her familiar goofey laughs. And the eyebrows are unmistakable. It's her.

No worries, you don't. As for me, I can respect someone sticking to and defending his/her position. And since so many members say that she looks like Marilyn, I've become uncertain. The color of her hair and her eyebrows are right - but the rest doesn't look like Marilyn at all to me. And that's got to be the most tacky looking outfit I've ever seen on her...

"I currently don't have my copy of Monroe's 1955 contract, but I assure you that she was employeed by Fox"

She wasn't employed by Fox. She - or rather MM Productions - entered a contract for the loan of her services to Fox for a number of movies over a set time period. (Or you're using "employed" in an unusual sense of the word.)

"So she used [the Fox studio dressing room] quite a bit more than by your figuring."

Just for the record I'd say she used it a bit less than what you're implying.

"Some people do pictures, I do nuggets of info."

And some of us do both. :)

Lasse

I'm 99.9% sure it's her. I don't really think her outfit is tacky at all. It's very casual and fashionable for the time period. It's too bad the photo is so small and the quality so poor.

I also wouldn't call that outfit tacky. It's something most of us women would were during a rehersal, applying make-up or just to feel comfortable. You can clearly see that a woman on this picture is not "done", her face shiny from vaseline. With all due respect, Lasse, I think it's one of the very rare occasions you're wrong:)

Well, I may be wrong, but I don't think she's comfortable in those pants... :)

(Yes, tacky, tacky, tacky - you want to spank me, please?)

Kind of OT, but I couldn't help noticing Shirley McClaine sitting there. I wonder if she ever made any kind of statement about knowing
Marilyn. She obviously did being in the Rat Pack.

Everyone - here is the clip of the Bob Crane/Marilyn Monroe interview you have been discussing and hoping to find. The blog post contains a link to the file on Soundcloud. Enjoy!

http://vote4bobcrane.blogspot.com/2012/01/...monroe-knx.html

Also - there is a serious campaign to induct Bob Crane into the National Radio Hall of Fame. You can learn more here:

http://www.vote4bobcrane.org/pressrelease.html

Please take some time and learn more about him - he was much different than how he has been presented in the media, and he deserves some long-overdue recognition.

Kind regards,
