Title: Marilyn On Marilyn
Date: 2001
Nationality: UK
Duration: 50 Minutes
Produced by: October Films.
Director: Paul Kerr

Review. This is by far and away my favourite Marilyn Monroe Documentary. The film is composed entirely of newsreel of Marilyn, often showing to the end of a take, the only audio comes from extracts of taped interviews, probably Merryman for Life and the one in 1960 for a French journalist. To have it playing in the next room is spookkily like having Marilyn in the house!

It has aired a few times on terrestial television in the U.K. and might have been seen elsewhere. It doesn't seem to have ever been relesed on DVD which is a shame for such a treasure trove of material. I have seen it excerpted many times on youtube as part of fans tributes.

Perhaps if enough people contacted the production company, they might do something about releasing it.

Rating 5/5

I agree with the 5/5. I recorded it when it was first shown on TV years ago, so luckily I have it on video, but I thought it would be on DVD by now. It's by far the best documentary about Marilyn (to me), and beautifully done too. Yeah, her voice spooks me too sometimes, and some additional footage (it's not all news-reels) make me sad, to hear her voice on top of it. I hope this will be released on DVD too!

I agree with your review, it's wonderful. The footage with Marilyn's voiceover is so evocative. I saw it on TV a few times, but foolishly did not tape it.

Yes, that's lovely. But also the Korea footage, candid, and the young Norma Jeane. I especially love the footage of her as a young model in the Ambassador hotel (Leo Caloia footage), and of her in 1942 walking around in a furcoat.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) i wish they would release it! I have been looking on youtube for it for ages and its not there. I saw it a couple of years ago too but did not record it i would love to see it again! Maybe if we did an online petition thing and sent it off to the company they would release it or at least but it on a websit so it can be downloaded?

Not sure if it's any use to anyone but I e-mailed October Films, the producers of the documentary, and was told that it is available on DVD for the price of £25 + PP. Seems pretty steep to me but maybe it's worth it. I haven't seen the programme, perhaps those that have could comment? What do you think?

Sorry to resurrect a sort of old thread but I was wondering if anyone knows where I could watch this? I don't mind buying it but can't seem to find it (even though I looked on the october films website?!).

It seems crazy that they haven't released this properly if it was on the BBC, I mean aren't the BBC always releasing their documentaries regardless of how dull they sometimes are - I'm sorry but there is only so much you can say about the life of bears or the amazon.

I hope someone can help 'cause I really would like to see this.
