Love Christina and can't but admire her true talent and amazing voice!
Britney?...don't get her and I don't think she can sing, unless via a recording studio with all the mod cons to make her sound resonable, so she has, I guess, a good recording voice, but live I don't beleive she can cut it. Both are not in anyway a comparison of Marilyn, never could be, as any modern day star could never hope to be or touch Marilyn! Generally, they just try to imitate and copy her....well, I guess that is a good thing to some extent as Marilyn is an insperational Icon to many! Still, again it is a matter of opinion and we are all entitled to our own and to remember to be respecful of others (IMG:style_emoticons/default/marilynbybrandon_190.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) |

The whole reason i fell in love with Marilyn was because i saw a beautiful girl crushed by other peoples expectations of her and its the same reason i adore Britney.... Well said Ellen, that's the likeness I see between them rather than a superficial image. Britney is only human and deserves our compassion just as Marilyn did, whether or not you're a fan of her work. Still, again it is a matter of opinion and we are all entitled to our own and to remember to be respecful of others (IMG:style_emoticons/default/marilynbybrandon_190.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) I agree Lolly, of course we all have different opinions and it's great that we can be honest but respectful of others. |

i'm glad britney is beginning to get back to being normal but when she wasn't she did it to herself, nobody did it to her. who told her to shave her head? who told her to attack that car with the umbrella? herself, that's who.

What is really sad for Britney is that everyone has an opinion on how she should be ...better at singing, better at dancing, better dressed, what do they want fireworks?...Marilyn once said men expect so much of her bells to ring and whistles to whistle..lower the bar, don't expect too much, perfection doesn't exist, she's back and i think she is doing a really good job and i hope she will take her time and go from strength to strength,if she mimes she mimes Britney is the whole package,a performer, dancer, actress but she is only human and deserves to be treated as such. I hate the world we live in today, the negativity, where all you here is someone is better than somebody else,no one is better than being Britney than Britney and to compare peoples abilities is a past time i don't waste time on as i find everyone is amazing in their own right. The whole reason i fell in love with Marilyn was because i saw a beautiful girl crushed by other peoples expectations of her and its the same reason i adore Britney.... I agree with you. A lot of people think they know how Britney or any other star should live, look and love. I guess it's the price celebrities have to pay, but still, they are the same human beings like us. I've loved Britney since the beginning of her career and I admire her still. She looks so fragile at the moment, I don't understand why her dad and Larry decided she is strong enough to come back to perform again. I wonder if that's what Britney really desires at the moment...She has undoubtedly changed, seems like a new person. It's so sad to see the sadness in her eyes, this vulnerability. I still do believe in her and I wish she founded her place in this life. She deserves to be happy. |

I like Britney. She has something that I find very likeable about her. Plus she has troubles in her life and is a real person. I was disappointed and a little underwhelmed she didn't sing live on her much hyped X Factor because she has a really good voice plus it was a little on autopilot (the stock answer she gave to the presenter at the end when he asked her a question made me laugh), as was a speech she recorded for the opening of the New York Rockafeller lights yesterday. It's like she has a wall up in front of her that she is hiding behind from the world. I believe it is all a little too soon for her - she should have had at least 1 - 2 years out, which I don't think would have hurt her because she is such a big star. Re Christina - she's very talented, her voice is a little harsh for my taste but she has some really good songs. Having to choose one or the other is daft. I find it a strange concept. I wish them both well.

I think her life was out of control at the time and she was under terrible stress. There was a freakshow mentality...

i don't understand when people say she wasn't herself, if she wasn't herself then who was she?
when i'm stressed i don't go around making a spectacle of myself and attracting unwanted attention, usually when someone is depressed they keep to themselves. This post has been edited by dwane: Dec 6 2008, 07:03 PM |

Not all depressed people keep to themselves. We're all unique, we have different experiences and we respond individually. And to go through all of this with the world watching must add to the pressure greatly. It's just such a bizarre situation, and few of us will ever know how that really feels. Some celebrities, like Madonna and Christina Aguilera, seem able to handle fame very well, whereas others, like Britney or Amy Winehouse, struggle to cope. Britney is said to be bipolar, and her history is quite typical of that condition - stages of desperately craving attention, whether good or bad, then followed by periods of utter despondency when they can barely function at all. At least she seems to be coping better now, good for her.
By the way Dwane, this is just my take on it - I'm not saying you're wrong - you know I think you're the best! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hug.gif) |

I agree with you Tara, some people are stronger than others and are able to keep things for themselves. But we all have different reactions.

thanks for clearing that up tara! i understand it a lot better than i did before. i had the idea that everyone deals with depression differently in my head but i just had to hear it somewhere else to make it perfectly clear.
you know i think your the best also! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif) |

I'm watching youtube clips from the Circus tour and I have to admit I'm very disappointed :( I wanted to believe that some miracle would happen and her fantastic dance moves will come back. Apparently not. The whole choreography is lousy, special effects (too many of them) can't cover it. Please, don't get offended those who are Britney's fans - I am one of them too! It's just that I see no one can turn back time and Britney won't be the same she used to. It's such a pity she lost the ability to dance. What I noticed in this Circus tour (maybe later she'll do better?), the greatest part of "dance routines" is shaking her head, ass and arms. I can see a big contrast betwen Britney's perfect dancers and her. Toxic used to be such a blast and the way she performed it yesterday...It is VERY disappointing :( I have this inner sensation she might quit performing in the middle of touring. I just don't see those sparkles in her eyes and in her body.
Very very sad :( |

Happy birthday to Britney. Can't believe she is 30. She seems to have been around for ever. I've not followed her but anything I've heard about her lately has been positive so hopefully she is doing well.

Britney is 30? I guess I never realized that I'm only three years older than she is. Maybe because there seems to be a bigger gap between 17 and 20 than there is between 30-33. She just always seemed much younger for some reason, at least in my mind.
I'm not a huge fan of her music, but I've always thought she seemed very likeable and real. |

I remember when I first heard of Britney. We were in school, computer class to be exact, and one of my best friends told me she loved her music. Britney was a new artist back then, and I hadn't heard of her before that. I don't have a strong opinion of her: I don't feel the need to judge her or defend her, I don't hate her or love her, she doesn't annoy me or make me admire her. To me she's simply one of the pop star celebrities.

Britney can/could sing, when she signed her record deal they told her that her natural singing voice wouldn't sell well commercially. They asked her to change her style, before she recorded BOMT she was up most of the night experimenting with her voice. She cannot sing live in the soft and breathy voice she uses now; her natural voice is much deeper. She sounds more like a child now, then she did 20 years ago: http://youtu.be/-TwWDlz7O8s |
