I just caught it on Lifetime. It had the usual suspects (Jim Doughterty peddeling the lie she was in love with him and begged to have his baby; James Haspiel playing the World's Biggest Fan EVER; Hugh Hefner) and a few surprises (Cyd Charisse, who claims EVERYBODY who worked with Marilyn loved her), Arthur's sister Joan Copeland, and Mr. Blackwell (also VERY gushy, as if he can make anyone forget he put her on her worst dressed list)!

What really cheezed me is they went from Payne Whitney to SSG, and completely ignored how Joe had re-entered her life! They couldn't even be bothered to mention he arranged the funeral! (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/angry.gif) And there was Jimmie yapping on and on about her like they were always best buds even though EVERYONE knows they had ZERO contact after 1946! (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/angry.gif) As if you can't tell, I'm REALLY cheezed! (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)

Thanks for the review Lisa. I know what you mean about inaccuracies on documentaries - especially regarding 1962. And the usual suspects appearing in every show - step forward, James Bacon ... However I would probably still watch this, if just for Joan Copeland as I haven't seen her before.

jimbo did let something drop i found interesting. as you know, he kept spewing the lie that it was OK with him if norma jeane modeled as long as she didn't want to act (something NOT corroborated by his sister in the 12/52 modern screen). anyhoo, he admitted when he found out she started modeling, he cut off her monthly allotment without even talking to her first! what a creep! and he wondered why norma jeane kicked him to the curb?!

There are always mixed opinions about Marilyn, from Tony Curtis to Cyd Charisse, there are bashers and suck ups. I don't know how I feel about James Haspiel, but it's hard to get a perspective of Marilyn when so many people deliver so many different opinions on her. I hate documentaries like these.

Hi Lisa, I own that documentary. Yes, Jim D. said that she begged him. He claimed he had to talk her out of it. I haven't watched it in awhile, but I remember Hugh Hefner again reminding us he is being buried right next to her...I should pop that tape in, you put me in the mood to watch it! I GOOFED when i said jimbo said he cut off her $$$ when she decided to model; he did when he got served with divorce papers without even talking to her first! (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/footinmouth.gif) his sister in the 12/52 modern screen he left norma jeane cuz she wanted to model. I just LOVED when - like arthur miller - he feighned to take the high road by not talking about their sex life -- guess he forgot he told fred guiles about the time he had to help norma jeane with her I.U.D.! if you watched other interviews with Jimbo or "Marilyn's Man", it's obvious he couldn't keep his "facts" straight! (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Is "Hef" the biggest creep or what?! (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/sick.gif)

Hi Lisa, Your expressions crack me up! I don't care for Hefner personally. There is something about him I can't put my finger on it how to describe my feelings. When he talks about her I don't particulary care what HE has to say. The green face is a great emotion .(IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Jimbo...that's cute. Yes, he did cut her off when she served him papers. Something called an Alotment? I do not know how to spell it. I am trying to remember if I saw Marilyn's Man, it had to be awhile ago! Thanks Lisa (IMG:http://www.everlasting-star.net/boards/style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) Lauren Michele

Jim Dougherty seemed to get on any TV programme he could in his later years and seemed to exagerrate more all the time. He says in his own book he cut off her money when he got divorce papers. He also said in other stuff he was OK with her modelling but told her that once he got back home aftre the war he wanted her to quit to start a family.
